The mind often gets carried away by sensations, emotions and thoughts. That is the nature of the mind. Our ancient brain is only focussed on our being alive. And it is not too bothered about the quality of our life or our thriving.

Once you begin observing your mind, you will notice what is it that makes it wander. Then you will understand how our survival instincts control our behaviour. Some of these instincts were relevant in the hunter-gatherer days, but not now.

All human beings are controlled by their survival instincts which drive them to do things. Most of us are completely unaware of this. Or we have some idea but cannot control it. Everyone has a physical body, feelings, emotions and thoughts. Everyone has sorrow, disappointments and pain. Everyone has experienced excitement, happiness and joy. Everyone wants to lead meaningful lives, have fulfilling relationships and wishes to be healthy and loved.

It is important therefore to spend time with ourselves to understand how our mind works. It is not enough to only read about it or intellectualise about it. That is why meditation is an important tool which helps us understand our mind.
