Wouldn’t you look amazing wearing this?

We all know the story of the mice who wanted to bell the cat. The cat kept troubling them and the group of mice thought that if they hung a bell around its neck, they would be aware of his whereabouts and could easily hide when they heard him coming.

In the same way, we all have a mind that hardly ever stays present with us in the task we are doing. It keeps dashing away from one sensation to another emotion to a third thought. If we could bell this mind – then we could keep track of not only where it is going, but also with some practice, understand why it is wandering away and gain some insights into how the mind works.

The idea is not to stop the mind from wandering or to control our thoughts, but to be aware where the mind goes –  so we bell the mind – and when we become aware that the mind has wandered away we gently bring it back to the task we are working on. This requires lots of practice and the good news is we can become aware of the mind and its workings. This helps us to be productive at work, caring in our relationships and be kind to ourselves.
