Nitya Meditation 13: Do your thoughts limit you?

Thoughts sometimes seem to appear from nowhere. They stem from our experience of things around us. Some thoughts are pleasant. Some are disturbing. They may be anxiety about the unknown.

But there are some thoughts which are limiting thoughts – which again come due to fixed ideas put into our heads by one or two negative experiences, our family, our society, religion, caste, class, gender, age and so on.

Such thoughts control our behaviour and we don’t even realise it.  If we become aware of what is in our subconscious mind – we can be in control of our behaviour.

Thoughts may be in the form of if I was taller, I could have been a model; It’s too late now to start a new business; I am too inexperienced to write the book and so on.

Paralysing thoughts you keep telling yourself – and when you keep telling yourself you’ll begin to believe it – which limits yourself from putting your full energy into your goals!

So we need to notice such thoughts. During meditation and even otherwise. And when you notice it simply acknowledge it (oh that was a limiting thought) and let it go. Just being aware of the thought solves half of the problem.
