Nitya meditation 21: Persevering even if you don’t feel like it

During stressful times, we begin to think that all has come to an end. There is nothing I can do to remove myself out of this stressful situation and so on. And we feel that we are living in times, where everything is designed to go wrong. Something like the end of the world.

But it is in such situations that we need to make the effort, to be mindful and to be balanced. There is a saying, ‘When you have time, meditate for 10 minutes and if you don’t have time, meditate for an hour.’

In such times we need to persevere. No matter what the circumstance, no matter what the outcome, no matter how difficult it is to keep going, we must persevere.

The thing is, some of these are not just feelings – feelings of loneliness, exhaustion, misery. These are real sensations. We are not feeling tired. We are tired, lonely and miserable. But again, we need to ask ourselves, “What support can I give myself and the others around me to feel better even if the situation is not better.”

You need to sit down with yourself for a few minutes in silence. And experience what you are going through, although it may take effort. But it will eventually be more rewarding than watching another movie on Netflix, or having another drink or worrying about what tomorrow has in store for you.
